What is research participation?

Participation means you are taking part in the research project as a subject. You might be invited to an interview, to attend focus groups or complete questionnaires. You might be testing a new treatment or helping to gather data about existing treatments.

Involvement means helping with how the research project runs. You may be asked to comment on the research design or practical aspects of the study. You may be asked about personal experience of the NHS to help researchers consider how their study might work ‘on the ground’.
