During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Public Health England has been in regular consultation with NHS organisation. In response Cambridge Community Services NHS Trust has instigated a number of changes to its services, including providing direction on the service offer. The most essential services for children/young people and families were agreed and have continued to be provided throughout, those services classified as non-essential were initially stopped but plans are now in place to gradually re instate services dependent on need and capacity; we are calling these our phase 3 restoration plans. In the phase 3 period: August 2020 – March 2021, we have worked hard to provide a full service offer but in some areas we have needed to introduce some changes to the way we work in the community.

We want to reassure families, children and young people that although we might do things differently, we are still available for health and wellbeing advice and advice.

The School Nurse Team will be able to:

  • Offer advice to parents and professionals for public health related queries.
  • Liaise with relevant professionals and agencies to support children and families, via virtual video platform (AccuRx), via telephone or via Microsoft Teams.
  • Complete essential Health Assessments as required via telephone or video consultation (AccuRx).
  • Offer ‘health & wellbeing clinics’ for parents and children/young people to drop in – these will be provided either in an appointment managed clinic or virtually depending on capacity.
  • Provide emotional well-being support to children and young people, either via telephone contact, or virtual video platform (AccuRx). Or via Chat Health text messaging service.
  • Offer children/young people aged 11-19 years (from year 7 and above) health related advice or emotional support via Chat Health – text support service. Text 07520 616070; (Opening hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm).
  • Offer parents health related advice for their child via Parentline – text support service. Text 07507 331886. You will be directed to a Health Visitor or School Nurse depending on the age of the child. (Opening hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm).
  • Offer support and health promotion to schools and families via telephone or virtual video platform (AccuRx) or via Microsoft Teams.
