New Birth Visit - Between day 10 - 21 following baby's birth a home visit will be arranged.

Developmental Reviews - we are moving back to a face to face offer in community setting, starting in Oct 21 with an aim that all development reviews will be face to face by Jan 2022.

Growth Monitoring - we offer appointment based weight monitoring for those babies with a clinical need, if you would like your baby weighed for any other reason we offer appointments at self weigh clinics on a Thursday and Friday.

Infant Feeding Support - we will contact you 48-72 hours after your baby is born to offer support.  This may be virtually, by phone or video by one of our experienced support staff.

If you are a family transferring into the area we will contact you by letter giving you details of our service and support we can offer.

Staff will continue to wear full PPE when they have face to face contact with you and we continue to require you to wear a face mask during these contacts.

We are working hard to offer our service within the current NHS COVID guidelines which may differ from those within the general public.

What we do

The 0-19 Service is delivered by health visiting, school nursing and infant feeding teams.

The 0-19 service is offered to children aged 0-5 who live in Luton, and children aged 5-19 who attend a Luton school, college, or alternative education provider, as well as to their parents/guardians/carers. There is an open access referral system in place which includes self referrals.

The vision of the 0-19 Service is that all children will reach their full potential. We aim to contribute to this through delivery of the Healthy Child Programme in partnership with other agencies including children’s centres.

The service is provided in a variety of settings including:

  • Client’s homes
  • Children’s centres
  • Schools
  • Clinics
  • Community health services

The Healthy Child Programme is an early intervention and prevention public health programme which consists of interventions such as screening, health and development reviews, health promotion,  and advice to children, young people and their parents/guardians or carers.

The programme includes:

  • Antenatal contacts
  • New birth visits
  • 6-8 week maternal mental health assessments
  • 1 year development assessments
  • 2 year development assessment
  • School entry reviews
  • National Child Measurement Programme
  • Universal health promotion
