We will not be accepting paper and email referrals after 31st December 2022. Please see our video on how to use the portal below.

Please note: you only need to use the referral portal if you do not already have access to SystmOne. If you are a professional with SystmOne access you can continue to use that to refer in.

What is the Referral Portal?

The Referral Portal is an online referral system that will help to streamline the referral process for children and young people into our specialist community health services.

Currently, only our Community Paediatric services across Beds and Luton will use the new referral system via the portal, but gradually over time we will be bringing our other specialist services online. Please note: this means we can only accept referrals for children registered with a Bedfordshire or Luton GP.

The aim of this Referral Portal will be to enhance data security, will enable referrals to be made to multiple services using one referral process and is part a programme to establish a single point of access for all CCS Children’s Services in Bedfordshire and Luton.

There are certain things you will need to have before beginning the referral - please look at our Essential Info page and make sure you have all of this ready before you begin the referral.

If you are a professional and would like some downloadable information about the portal - click here.

Please note

An email link will be sent during the referral process for external forms/questionnaires (e.g. Conners). A Conners form will need to be completed by all listed with parental responsibilities with a different home address to the child.

Following submission of a referral via the portal, you may be contacted via email for additional information or to complete supporting documentation such as questionnaires. This email can be replied to, to return any additional information that has been requested.

Why are we bringing this new system in?

  • Our service receives a high volume of paper correspondence and referrals. A 2019 audit in Bedfordshire Community Paediatrics suggested a 67:32% split paper/digital.
  • Paper referrals and correspondence is associated with delays in receipt, high processing times including scanning and risks of delay or non-receipt of information.
  • Benefits for our families including automation of sending the Diagnosis Support Pack by email once parent/carer email is provided.
