Hear from some of our fabulous staff about their experiences of working at CCS.

Karen DearWhen the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020, Karen Dear was furloughed from her job as a dance school teacher. Eager to do something to help, she began volunteering in her local community and was inspired to join the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history in January 2021.  

Fast forward a year and after working at several of Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s (CCS) large-scale vaccination sites, the 57-year-old explains how the experience resulted in her pursuing a career in the NHS.

Tamryn4As an airline cabin crew member, Tamryn Saby spent 11 years jetting across the world but after being furloughed during the Covid pandemic, the 45-year-old found herself with plenty of time on the ground to reassess her career.

In March 2021, Tamryn began a new role working at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s (CCS) large-scale vaccination sites and has since embarked on a therapeutic radiography degree. Here Tamryn shares how she’s been inspired to join the NHS workforce.

StonewallWhen Stonewall Burk and his wife Lyn emigrated to the UK from Canada in January 2020, they could never have envisaged what the next two years would entail. Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the pair have played a crucial role in helping the country tackle the virus. In the early days, Lyn was working in intensive care units (ICUs) and for the past year, Stonewall has been a stalwart vaccinator at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s (CCS) large-scale vaccination sites. Rachel SmithFormer primary school teacher Rachel Smith has been working as a vaccinator at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s (CCS) large-scale Covid vaccination sites for 15 months. T1When the NHS launched a national recruitment drive for people to join the Covid-19 vaccination mission, Trisha Smithe-Norman was one of the first to sign up.

Fast-forward 18 months and she’s still working as a vaccinator at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s (CCS) large-scale vaccination sites and loving every minute. ConnorIf you had your Covid vaccination in King’s Lynn or Cambridge, it’s quite possible you were vaccinated by Connor Ruane. Aged 17 when he joined our team in January 2022, Connor’s one of the youngest vaccinators at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust (CCS) and has been described by his manager as a shining star. Carole WoodlowRetired nurse Carole Woodlow is one of thousands of healthcare professionals who returned to the NHS to support the coronavirus effort.

Having already clocked up 37 years working at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust, Carole joined Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s (CCS) Covid vaccination team in 2021. Click here to read her story.
