Special Needs School Nursing

This is a nurse-led service that aims to provide safe, professional healthcare guidance to schools for pupils aged 4 – 19 with special needs including those with profound disabilities and complex health needs. 

The service provides: 
  • telephone advice to families 
  • training and advice to school staff 
  • pre-school home visits to those children with complex health needs 
  • liaison with specialist services and primary care teams (i.e. those based in GP practices) 
The service is provided at the following schools: 
  • Spring Common School, Huntingdon 
  • Samuel Pepys School, St Neots 
  • Granta School, Cambridge 
  • Castle School, Cambridge 
  • Highfield School, Ely (outreach only) 
  • Meadowgate School, Wisbech
  • Heltwate and Pheonix Schools, Peterborough
  • Littleport and East Cambs Academy
  • Universal service to the area special schools in Cambridgeshire (exc. Heltwate and Phoenix).
Referrals are received from individual schools, all children within the school will have access to their school nurse, GPs, Children’s Community Nursing Team, Children’s Learning Disability Team.
