Raj Thirunageswaram, MSK Physiotherapist and Operational Team Lead, Peterborough - June 2017

by Kirstie Flack | Jun 27, 2017

This award is an opportunity for patients, families, visitors and Trust colleagues to say ‘thank you – you made a difference’ to a member of staff or a team for anything (however small!) that helped make their experience of our services better.

The winner for June is:

Raj Shine a Light AwardRaj Thirunageswaram, MSK Physiotherapist and Operational Team Lead, Peterborough

Raj was nominated by Jayne Davies, clinical lead for demonstrating excellent leadership during the last 12 months. He always does this in a calm way and his staff cohorts appreciate his emotional stability, his steadiness and his support. The most recent demonstration of this was certainly above and beyond, to the most extreme.

During the recent cyber-attack Raj excelled in his duty as team lead for Peterborough when he was called on a Saturday with an urgent IT request to turn on all PC’s across 6 sites in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. His actions were integral to CCS being operational on Monday morning.

He assured Sarah Saul that this would be carried out, taking details, instruction and relaying back to ensure it took place. He remained calm and acted upon the instructions ensuring that he relayed the information to the admin lead succinctly and promptly. Just 2 hours later his wife delivered their new child. What he had failed to mention when taking the call from Sarah and acting upon the instructions was that his wife was in labour and he was rushing her to the maternity unit. This is certainly above and beyond the normal duty!

Sarah Saul said: "I am very proud of all my staff who helped MSK stay operational through the cyber-attack and went onto sites to action requests over the weekend. The fact Raj said nothing about him being a bit busy and just ensured the job was done showed his great attitude and dedication. Congratulations to him and Nancy on the birth of their second child."

Congratulations to Raj!

Other nominees were:

Jacqueline Mcmillan, School Nurse Duty Desk, School Nursing, Huntingdon

Jackie was nominated by Jo Smith for embracing the recent opportunity of the school nursing duty desk nurse with open arms. It is a brand new role and a little unknown, but her excitement and passion for the role have shone throughout her recruitment and selection, and then her starting this role. This is a step up for Jackie whose substantive post is a band 5 school nurse within the team. She has also recently completed a secondment in the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub, which again was a promotion for her.

The feedback from the Mash team regarding Jackie's work in this role has been fantastic. Jackie has enthusiasm by the bucket load, and is keen to share knowledge and skills gained. Over the past few months, Jackie has had personal and work related difficult circumstances, which she has worked her way through, showing determination and courage to challenge where appropriate. Her can do attitude and positive approach to this new challenge will stand her and the new duty desk in good stead to drive this new part of the service forward.

Susie Robertson, Speech and Language Therapist, Ely

Susie was nominated by Lizzie Hunt for her work with a 17-year old client who stammers and has been receiving therapy. He told Susie that she has "changed his life"! She has helped him to come to terms with his stammer and not try to hide it from his peers and other people, so he feels much more confident in social and work situations.

Rachel Kremer, DVT and Anticoagulant Nurse Specialist, Luton Treatment Centre

Rachel was nominated by Sarah Munroe for being so dedicated to her work as one of the Nurse Specialists at the Luton Treatment Centre. She is popular with patients and staff alike treating them with dignity and respect whilst offering the highest level of care. Rachel once took off a day of her own time to go wedding dress shopping with a junior member who has no family here and struggled to have an available friend on the day.

Congratulations to everyone who was nominated this month.
