This award is an opportunity for patients, families, visitors and Trust colleagues to say ‘thank you – you made a difference’ to a member of staff or a team for anything (however small!) that helped make their experience of our services better.
The winner for October was:
Sue Guess, Pharmacy Technician, District Nursing (DN) Service, Luton
Sue was nominated by Cassandra Porter for her work within the DN service. Sue has integrated so well and has really made an outstanding effort to forge relationships with staff and getting to know the patients caseloads. She attends daily handovers to assist them in identifying issues with medications/patients and for general advice. Sue is always at hand to impact her knowledge whilst considering the best needs for the patients and maximising the efficiency of the service that they provide.
She has been absolutely pivotal in reviewing patients that are currently on the DN caseload for medication administration. Sue has assisted the team by liaising with patients, families, GPs, the CCG and care agencies to promote independence for the patient and reduce the amount of contacts the nursing service has with the patient.
Sue does all of this in a professional manner with a positive demeanour. She is so happy to assist and communicate with the team – listening to concerns and providing alternatives or taking it on board for them to free time up elsewhere. She is very ambitious in her work and rises to every challenge presented to her and for that the team hugely respects her.
Congratulations to Sue!
Also nominated this month:
Kim Milligan, Recruitment Officer, Ranstad Court Luton
Kim was nominated by Sally Shaw for revolutionising her life with no more chasing up applicants, arranging interviews, Occupational Health and Disclosure Barring Service outcomes, photocopying of interview packs, I.T. requests, the list is endless!
A recent new starter in the team reported back that it was clearly evident who had a ‘Kim’ and who didn’t and the general consensus was that everyone should have one! The ones who didn’t had problems with DBS, references, uniforms etc. whereas the staff member reported that Kim had been very supportive during the recruitment process and that she was very approachable even when she knew she had been told some information but had then forgotten and had to phone her again to clarify/confirm. Kim is unflappable and always willing to answer sometimes weird or simple questions!
Brookfield’s School Nursing Team , School Nurses / Administration Support, Brookfield’s Health Centre
Gerry Matlock nominated her colleagues Lynsey Downham and Mandy Gardiner for being wonderful team players. The team has staff vacancies so have work pressures but with Lynsey and Gerry dealing with clinical work and Mandy supporting them with their administration it makes the team a good place to be.
Charmaine Perry, Office Manager, Redgrave Gardens Luton
Charmaine was nominated by Linda Sharkey after she received a letter from Mrs Sarah Ball, head teacher of St. Augustine’s Academy, Dunstable praising Charmaine for always helping the school with the complex needs of the children. Mrs Ball said: “'I send Charmaine emails and she is able to tell me what the situation is which saves me a lot of time. She is a really good support to our school, is always polite and patient and a good ambassador for the centre.”
Congratulations to everyone nominated this month.
