Shine a Light Award Winner – May 2014
Carolyn Watson and Becky Wimbleton, HR Recruitment
Carolyn and Becky were nominated by Anne Foley for providing support to services to improve the effectiveness of recruitment in difficult to recruit to areas.
They implemented the 'face of the service' recruitment campaign using Facebook and twitter, with the support of the Communications team along with recruitment open days and fairs. They also setup value based selection days for band 5 nurses and developed and recruited to a rotational scheme for newly qualified nurses. They provided support to managers to keep in contact with candidates, designed and delivered new training to ensure responsibilities are clear and developed better relationships with the SERCO recruitment team to improve the service. In adult services 49% of vacancies have been filled (32.6) and in children’s services 30% (14.8) vacancies have been filled.
Congratulations to Carolyn and Becky.
Other nominations included:
Peterborough TB Service
The team were nominated by a colleague, Judith Williams, for working in conjunction with the TB lead Dr Seem Brij from Peterborough City Hospital, and Public Health England, for successfully completing the TB screening of over 500 factory employees in two days.
Patients identified as having a high risk of TB were seen in the TB clinic three days later and started on treatment. The TB nurse and Dr Brij worked hard to ensure that patients were screened, diagnosed and started on treatment as soon as possible. Working together, they provided a superb service, ensuring that patients received the care they needed as quickly as possible.
MSK Hunts Admin Team, Physiotherapy
Sarah Saul nominated the team following a request to rapidly implement a triage service for the Huntingdon commissioners in 8 weeks. From start to finish the team has coped with training, implementation, the inevitable rocky periods, new ways of working and new liaisons with GP's and surgeries and came in at weekends to ensure his could be achieved.
This "can do and will do attitude" by the team and their determination to overcome obstacles and make it happen successfully led by the admin manager Dawn Adams is to be recognised and fully deserves to be nominated for this award.
Special Care Baby Unit, Hinchingbrooke Hospital
The team were put forward by the mother of child on the ward. She wanted to thank all of the doctors and nurses who have helped her daughter and helped them get to where they are today.
The nomination read “The NHS is nothing short of a miracle! We haven't spent a single penny since this whole process began back in January 2014 on care for either me or our baby. I can only imagine how many thousands of pounds have been spent keeping us safe and well.”
Her daughter’s life was saved as a result of the incredible work by the staff of Hinchingbrooke SCBU and the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. The parents couldn’t find the right words to say how grateful they were and to know that every single person who may find themselves in this situation would receive the same level of care and support, irrespective of their circumstances, makes them very proud to be British and to know we have the healthcare system to beat all others.
Tissue Viability Team, Luton adult services
The TV team were nominated by Sarah Bunn for the continued excellent specialist care they provide to their clients, even with sudden illness affecting the two senior members of the team.
They have continued to advise and support both qualified and unqualified healthcare providers and are continuing with their plans to improve the service being offered by working on ideas such as admission and discharge advice booklets for clinic patients.
The support Sarah personally receives and continues to receive from the Team is outstanding.
Well done to everyone!
