Shine a Light Award Winner – April 2014

Elspeth Novice, Speech and Language Therapist, Doddington Hospital

Elspeth was nominated by her colleague Kay Rogers for the highly professional service she offers in East Cambs and Fenland. During this challenging time Elspeth has continued to be extremely flexible and willing to provide cover and support in order to maintain a clinical service often at short notice. She remains enthusiastic and willing to share her knowledge and expertise with less experienced colleagues and the wider team in general.

Elspeth has been instrumental in setting up the MASH (March Aphasia Support Group) and has recently, in her own time organised a quiz night, where she and her husband were the quiz masters, raising much needed funds required for the continuation of the group. Elspeth is a highly regarded and valued member of the team.

Congratulations to Jacqueline.

Other nominations included:

Le
sley Winner, Junior Sister, Nuffield Road Medical Centre District Nurses

Lesley was commended by a colleague for the kindness and support shown to both her patients and her staff.  Lesley originally worked as a band 5 at the surgery where she has been able to work her way up to the position of junior sister.

She took the position over when morale was very low, but she has changed this. She helped to get them back working as a team and made work a pleasure again. If her patient’s and the team had to sum Lesley up in three words it would have to be caring, loyal and passionate. Every single patient Lesley looks after remembers her for her caring bedside manner and how kind and personable she is.  She has achieved so much in such a small space of time and everyone is proud of her. Staff arrive at work not just to provide the best possible care for our patients but also to work hard for Lesley. She has everyone's upmost respect and she has made them a team again.

Soham Health Visiting Team

The team were nominated by the mother of one of the children they visit for their fantastic efforts and levels of support!  Ebonie Chandraraj and Sue Spruce were two members of staff who have shown tremendous support.

They always show commitment, dedication and devotion to their role. Nothing seems too much trouble, and they are always willing to go that extra mile. They are always approachable, and it is evident they love their jobs and generally care about the role they play. When speaking to other Mum's in the community, people think very highly of the whole team and the work that they do. They make a difference. Sometimes things can often go unnoticed and are taken for granted, which is why it is important to give people the recognition they deserve!

Nicola Wilson / Carol Leyton, MSK Lead Podiatrist / Specialist Podiatrist, Podiatry - Peterborough

Nicola and Carol were nominated by their colleague Jo Hood after receiving an email sent in from one of their patients.

The email read: I am just writing to say what a full and patient friendly service I received from Nicola Wilson on the 21st February 2014 at the MATS in Thorpe Road, Peterborough. Nicola was smartly dressed, she was bright and very patient friendly. Her knowledge was the thing that impressed me most of all. Every question I asked she had a very good answer for. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She put my mind at rest and in the end I did not want to have an operation and decided to put up with the discomfort that I currently have.

I would also like to mention Carol Leyton at Healthy Living Centre, Princes Street, Peterborough who removed my toe nail with the best patient care I think I have ever had. She recommended further treatment and arranged for me to see someone at the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy section of the City Health Clinic at Wellington Street, Peterborough, so that I could find out whether I wanted to go onto to have an operation.
They were superb!

Congratulations to you all!
