Children’s community medical service (paediatricians)
What we do
The service provides paediatric medical assessments for children and young people with the following conditions:
- Suspected developmental delays or disorders
- Neurodisability such as cerebral palsy
- Neuro-developmental problems such as autism spectrum disorders
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and associated behavioural problems
- Developmental Co-ordination Disorder
- Enuresis, encopresis and constipation
- Education, Health and Care Plan medicals
- Children with special needs at Special Schools
- Safeguarding concerns, alleged neglect, physical, emotional
- Adoption, Looked After Child (LAC) medicals
- Referrals to other professionals/agencies made where appropriate
We do not accept referrals for:
- selective mutism
- emotional problems, including anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, suicidal tendency or self-harming
- Pathological demand avoidance
- to confirm/rule out dyslexia
In addition, it provides specific role related functions like
- Named Doctor for safeguarding children
- Lead Doctor for LAC
- Lead Paediatrician to CDOP (Child Death Overview Panel)
The service complies with statutory requirements and has extended its role to develop health activities in line with “Every Child Matters”.

Self referrals are not accepted to this service
