Dental

For good oral health, children need:

  •  a diet without too much sugar
  • Access to toothpaste or a regular source of caries- preventive fluoride
  • to brush their teeth twice a day with a soft or medium toothbrush with adult help in the early years
  • access to regular dental care to benefit from early diagnosis and treatment of dental disease when necessary.

What you can do to help

Guidance for parents about when to start using a toothbrush in children, which toothbrush to choose and how best to clean your child’s teeth is available here.

Guidance for parents/ carers about what to do if your child bangs a tooth or knocks a tooth can be accessed here.

How we can help

Please contact your local dentist about your child’s dental care. If your child has a diagnosis, complex needs or a genetic condition please discuss this with your local dentist, since they may want to consider onward referrals to a specialist paediatric or hospital dental service.
