Luton Children’s Community & Specialist Nursing Service

The Special Needs Nursing (SNN) Team provides clinical care to children and young people with complex health needs or disabilities who attend special/mainstream schools/social care settings.

The Paediatric Epilepsy Nursing (PEN) Service supports effective diagnosis and care of children/young people with a diagnosis of epilepsy, avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions/attendances, from birth to transition to adult services.

Who can use the service
The Special Needs Nursing Service is provided to children/young people in Luton schools or who have NHS Luton GP’s.

The Paediatric Epilepsy Nursing Service is provided to children/young people who have an NHS Luton GP.

The service is based at:
The Poynt
2-4 Poynters Road
Luton LU4 0LA

but services are delivered in schools, homes and community settings.

Special Needs Nursing Team 
The SNN Team provides a service for pupils attending special needs schools in Luton and south Bedfordshire 39 weeks of the year (during termtime) excluding bank holidays between 09.00 – 17.00 hrs Monday to Friday.

Paediatric Epilepsy Nursing (PEN) Service
The Paediatric Epilepsy Nursing Service provides full time service Mon-Fri 09:00- 17:00 excluding Bank holidays/33 days annual leave/year.

Referrals:
SNN
Referrals are accepted from community/hospital paediatricians, health visitors, school nurses, education, social services, GP’s, other health professionals and families. 

PEN
Referrals are accepted from community/hospital paediatricians, health professionals, education, social services staff. Re-referrals are accepted directly from parents/carers/young people who have previously accessed the service.
