Community Paediatric Consultant Profiles

This is a consultant paediatrician-led community based service for children and young people with suspected disability, neuro-disability and development delay.

The Consultant Paediatricians also provide specialist medical opinion: 

  • in child abuse and neglect cases
  • for statutory assessment and advice for Looked After Children
  • for adoption processes for children and young people 
  • for those undergoing formal assessments for a statement of special educational needs

Dr Humphrey joined the Luton Community Paediatric team in 2004 and was appointed Named Doctor in October 2013.  The role of Named Doctor includes provision of support and advice to colleagues and other health professionals in relation to the clinical management of children and young people where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns, working closely with other members of the safeguarding team.

Dr Hassan joined Luton Community Paediatric team in Jan 2015 as a consultant and Designated Doctor for safeguarding. In June 2016 he had an additional role as Designated Doctor for Looked after Children. Before coming to Luton he worked for Barts Health NHS trust and the Royal London Hospital in East London for 17 years.  He was the Clinical Effectiveness Lead for the Specialist children’s services.

The Designated role is to provide strategic guidance quality assurance and advice to the commissioners, local authority and LSCB in relation to children’s safeguarding. Also to provide support and advice to colleagues on child protections matters where appropriate.

I have worked in Luton since 2003, and I was appointed as Clinical Lead for Community Paediatrics Luton in 2011.  I am the Lead Paediatrician for Luton Child Death reviews working with the Child Death Overview Panel who undertake  comprehensive, multi-agency reviews of all deaths of children normally resident in  Luton, in order to better understand how and why children and Young People die and to use the findings to take action to prevent other deaths and to improve the health, well-being and safety of children and young people.

Consultant Community Paediatrian / Lead for Autism Service

Dr Omisakin joined the Luton Community Paediatric Team in August 2017 and has been appointed lead for the autism service. Before coming to Luton, Dr Omisakin worked with the Ealing Community Paediatric team (London Northwest Healthcare Trust) for 6 years. Dr Omisakin has a special interest in autism spectrum disorder and her role of lead for the autism service involves ensuring that the autism pathway delivers effective assessment, investigation and appropriate support for children and families affected by autism spectrum disorder.  This involves working closely with partner agencies within commissioning, health and educational services and local voluntary sector organisations.

I have worked in community paediatrics for more than 20 years in various different jobs. I joined ELC in November 2016 and have taken on the role as lead for ADHD and am trying to improve services for children and families affected by this condition.  I also see a range of children with other developmental difficulties and enjoy the daily variety of work here.

I have been working at the Edwin Lobo Centre for almost 10 years. I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist and an Independent Nurse Prescriber. My role is to review and support children and young people with ADHD, Autism, and other known syndromes and sleep difficulties. I also see children and young people who experience bedwetting.

Dr Kate Head MBBS MSc MRCPCHKate Head
Consultant Community Paediatrician

Dr Head has been working as a Consultant Community Paediatrician in Luton since 2014 and until very recently was the Clinical Lead for Autism. In her previous post in Slough she worked as the Designated Doctor for Adoption and Fostering. Dr Head has recently secured a CLAHRC research fellowship and will be working on a project, with local parents/carers of children with Developmental Delay, reviewing and optimising the information that we provide post diagnosis.

Since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1987 I have gained valuable experience in a variety of areas.  I possess qualifications in Orthopaedic nursing, Community nursing and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting).  In my role as practice teacher I am committed to providing a learning environment for students to thrive.  I am an Independent Non Medical Prescriber and a local champion for prescribing.  I have recently joined the Edwin Lobo Team and have special interests in Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Musculoskeletal conditions.
