Christmas Shine a Light Winners announced

by Kirstie Flack | Dec 20, 2017
Naomi, Caroline and Nicola - Dec winners

The joint winners for December are:

Fran Long, Naomi Sawyer and Nikki Sculthorpe, Health visitor, Community Nursery Nurses, Huntingdon

Hannah Mora and Danielle Black nominated Fran, Naomi and Nikki after they worked with a family for over a year in which domestic violence was suspected.

Hannah said: “I feel this really shows the value of the health visiting teams’ ongoing work with families, maintaining professional curiosity, recognising when there are concerns, and not just accepting what they were told. Without this support, this lady was unlikely to feel able to leave this abusive relationship and prioritise the safety of her children. I feel these 3 team members should be commended for an excellent piece of work, which may not be recognised by a KPI, but most certainly is in the human factor, and is a great piece of preventative work that is invaluable to that mother and her children.”

Barbara Elliott, Sara Scotney, Courtney Starkey, Ruth McLaren, Sarah Wilson, Clinical Systems Team, City Care Centre Peterboroughclinical systems

The team were nominated by Nikki Hall and Verity Trynka-Watson for the major projects they supported in both Cambridgeshire and Norfolk CYP services to streamline their S1 units. In Norfolk, the service reduced 33 S1 units down to 6, whilst in Cambridgeshire they reduced 11 S1 units down to 3. Throughout this period, the clinical systems team worked closely with the services to ensure that all preparation and housekeeping was completed to plan.

During the mergers, they provided support, guidance and snagging assistance to local teams. The team remained friendly, professional and supportive in spite of the additional workload over this period. The completion of the mergers has streamlined the use of S1 for HCP, supported integration for 0-19 working, made it possible for Just One Number and the duty desk to work effectively, and minimised administration and duplication within S1.

Congratulations to you all!

Other nominees were:

Faiza Chogolay, HR Advisor, Luton
Faiza was nominated by Tina Charlton for working incredibly hard on several staff consultations at the same time in Luton some of which have been very challenging. She has been exceptional, patient and professional in the way she has supported staff. This has included some very difficult meetings.

The Impact PrEP trial (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis against HIV) has been successfully launched across CCS’s iCaSH services, with many hubs working as recruitment sites. The trial launch was challenging at times and involved a great deal of hard work from lots of colleagues across the service and Trust. In iCaSH Norfolk, several staff members had been key to the smooth introduction of the trial and provided invaluable and on-going staff support. Carl, Portia and Sam have worked tirelessly to ensure the trial has got off to the best start possible. Everyone is so grateful for their continued support, hard work and patience and would love their efforts to be recognised.

Tracey James, Ward Manager, Special Care Baby Unit, Huntingdon
Hilary Dixon commended Tracey for being a positive and supportive colleague to all medical and nursing staff on SCBU, and for having an excellent rapport with the families passing through her service. She is passionate about maintaining high standards, but also practical and willing to tailor care to an individual baby and family. Tracy recently helped SCBU do well in a very detailed NHS England peer review, which involved a large amount of extra work in addition to her usual duties. She is much appreciated by her colleagues and our parents alike.

Jill Palmer and Alyson Ripley-Thomas, Family Public Health Nurses, City Locality Norfolk HCP
Marie Balfour and the City Locality leadership team nominated Jill and Alyson following on from undertaking the Dual Qualification, (becoming additionally qualified as Health Visitors to compliment their School Nurse qualification).  Jill and Alyson have worked innovatively as trailblazers developing this long awaited new role within the City Locality. They have worked with great enthusiasm to define and shape the interventions that they offer, embracing the challenges of supporting complex families with children across the age ranges. This has enhanced and ensured positive outcomes for the children. Their enthusiasm is evident within their daily approach to work and they are effective role models. They are proud to have them within the locality as they stretch the potential of their role. They epitomise the integration offer of the 0-19 service.

“Miriam made a difference to everything!  I was tired, scared and a little clueless as to how to help my little boy Theo but Miriam was unbelievably kind, considerate and supportive to us both overnight.  She told me to rest, brought me cups of tea and made every effort to help me get some rest while she saw to Theo.  She is fantastic and every mums dream nurse.”
